Crystal and Estelle have settled into Darwin in preparation for two J5 ITFs - the starting point for attaining a World Junior Ranking. Estelle has made it through two tough qualies matches over the past two days and both girls are ready for main draw singles tomorrow.
ITF juniors are not like regular AR tournaments - there is no conso, the age range is 13 to 18, the draws are limited in size, and you have to take your opportunities if and when they arise. They are a better test of your mettle on match day, much more like the adult tour, and usually a learning experience worth having. I look forward to helping everyone through this level of competition in the coming years.
All the best to those training in Perth, those getting ready for the Rod Laver Gold and ITF J4 tour coming up in July, and good luck to everyone this long weekend at the WA Day JT and AMT! If any of the kids (or parents) want to chat with me before their matches or just in general about their training... you have my number :-)
